The Bird Releases New Single ‘Chasing Fireflies’

South African singer-songwriter The Bird, born Bianca Burt, has released her latest single, Chasing Fireflies. The track is a reflective meditation on memory, wonder, and preserving beauty in a world that moves too quickly. Written during the quiet of a late Cape winter, the song captures the fragile magic of life’s fleeting moments.
“Chasing Fireflies is about wonder. It’s about the rare, sparkling experiences we carry with us, the moments that feel almost impossible, yet stay etched in our hearts. For me, the firefly became a symbol of hope, resilience, and the childlike spirit I never want to lose,” said The Bird.
Bianca Burt’s musical journey has been diverse. She grew up between Cape Town and Hermanus, singing at family gatherings and with local groups before exploring musical theatre. She later pursued a career in events management, spending a decade in London. Music returned after the loss of her father in 2014, becoming a form of healing and truth-telling. Her songs since then have been like journal entries, exploring love, motherhood, grief, and resilience.
Now back in Cape Town, she creates under the name The Bird, a symbol of freedom, perspective, and coming home to herself. Her music blends folk and pop with poetic storytelling, creating songs that are deeply personal yet universal.
“Chasing Fireflies is about keeping faith in the little lights,” she explains. “It reminds me that no matter how dark things may feel, beauty always finds a way through.”
Chasing Fireflies is available on all major streaming platforms, marking a new chapter in The Bird’s evolving musical journey.
