Bukiwe Keva Hits a New Beat: From Screen Star to Rising Music Talent

Bukiwe Keva is proving that reinvention is key in South Africa’s entertainment scene. After her breakout role as the feisty Asanda on Mzansi Magic’s Gomora was abruptly cut short, she faced uncertainty and a period of depression. Instead of letting it stop her, she chose a new path—music.

In recent years, female stars have turned to music and DJing to expand their careers, and Bukiwe is following suit. She released her debut single, Iyho Joe, in August last year after being discovered by DJ Active, who saw untapped potential in her. Despite the hype, she keeps grounded. “I don’t want to rate myself as a vocalist; I want the listeners to be the judges of that,” she says.

Bukiwe credits her resilience to the support of family and friends. “I struggled, but with their encouragement, I overcame it. I’m back, and things are looking up,” she explains. The energy she now brings to music is a far cry from the anxiety she felt after Gomora ended.

Her focus is on live performances and connecting with audiences across the country. “I’m excited about going to gigs and sharing music in our local languages. Everyone is catered for,” she shares.

For Bukiwe, music is more than a backup plan; it’s a new chapter for self-expression and growth. “I realised life wasn’t going to wait for me. I needed to get myself out of the rut. This is me doing something worthwhile with my life,” she says.

With her infectious energy and dedication, Bukiwe Keva is ready to make waves in South Africa’s music scene, proving that a career pivot can open doors to creativity, opportunity, and success.
