Beyoncé’s family trip to South Africa has given her part of the inspiration behind the recent beautiful visual album ‘Black Is King’. In regards to the visual album, the musician also decided to work with young black creatives on it. Bey spoke about this on the British Vogue December issue with Edward Enninful.

The musician spoke about the process that went into creating the visual album and the reason why she created the visual album. “I was also deeply inspired by my trip to SA with my family. And, after having my son, Sir Carter, I felt it was important to uplift and praise our boys and to assure that they grow up with enough films, children’s books and music that promote emotional intelligence, self-value and our rich history. That’s why the film is dedicated to him,” says Beyoncé. The ‘Black Is King’ visual had music that was used from ‘The Lion King: The Gift’.

Beyoncé says that she started in her backyard when she just wanted to do one or two videos for The Lion King’s ‘The Gift’ album. The visual album was shot in several locations such as Nigeria, London, Los Angeles, Ghana, Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal. She has also worked with several African artists and actors such as Busiswa, Moonchild Sanelly, Connie Chiume, Nandi Madida and Nyaniso Dzedze.
